Brody Aston scored twice in the second period and the Regina River Rats opened their 2026–27 QVHHL season with a 6–2 win over the Davidson Cyclones on Saturday night at Doug Wickenheiser Arena.
The Rats did not wait long. Aidan Jackson opened the scoring with 16:12 left in the first, set up by Easton Ostrowka and Jack Chorney, and about a minute later Dylan Formo made it 2–0 from Aston and Ethan Meyer. Davidson got one back with 12:33 left in the period, but Chorney restored the two-goal lead with 8:34 to go, from Dylan Keller.
The Cyclones pulled within a goal with 8:32 left in the second. Aston answered twice: with 5:55 left, and again with 1:49 to go, both set up by Austin Enright and Paxton Church. That sent the Rats to the second intermission up 5–2.
Tempers flared midway through the third, with a 10-minute misconduct handed to a player on each side, but Davidson never got closer. Jayce Skrypnyk, Rat of the Game in the exhibition win at Wolseley, finished the scoring with 3:57 left, from Formo and Meyer.
Rat of the Game went to Brody Aston, who finished with two goals and an assist. Formo and Chorney had a goal and an assist each, and Meyer, Enright and Church each picked up two assists.
It felt like a home opener off the ice too. Ruckus, the club’s rat mascot, worked the glass with his tambourine, and the club’s banners lined the lobby with the “Feed the Current” rallying cry and the four things this team plays for: focus in the moment, toughness in every shift, team before self and trust earned daily.
The Rats head out on the road next: Wednesday, November 11 against the Kelliher Komets at 4:00 PM at Balcarres Centennial Arena, then a rematch in Davidson on Friday, November 20 at 7:30 PM. They are back home on Saturday, November 21 against the Emerald Park Wizards at 7:45 PM.
